The Citizen's Resolution Project - It begins

Postby Brett » Wed Apr 15, 2009 6:56 pm

This is the first post and really is just to get something in here for now. We'll go into more detail later. But this topic is intended to provide updates and to discuss the whats going on with our "Citizen's Resolution Project".

The Citizen's Resoltion was a document drafted using input from the citizens of Jefferson County West Virginia. The input was farmed from citizen input submited to the project's web page also hosted on this website. The resuting, hand written on a 50 ft long roll of brown wrapping paper details a great number of the grieviences and frustrations being felt and experienced by our citizens toward our elected officials today. It in no way does it capture all the wonderful and interesting input that we received. Those items will have to be address as well and we will need to find a way to do that. The wording of the resolution took up approximately 30 ft of the roll of wrapping paper.

After drafting the document it was presented to the citizens of Jefferson County West Virginia at the T.E.A. Party held in front of the Jefferson County Court House on 15 April 2009. At his event all present were allowed to hear the document read aloud in its entirity and then were premitted to sign the document. The signatures filled all the remaining space on the roll.

Needless to say, we are proud of the citizens of this county and there willingness to stand up for what they beleive. In this topic we plan to detail what happens to the Citizen's Resolution Scroll from this point out. We're doing this becuase it is our intention to deliver this document to the resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave Washington DC and the citizens of this county have earned the right to know what happens to it. We also hope to provide you with and opportunity to discuss the individul tenants of the document here within this forum.

Is there a way to get a copy or see a copy of the final resolution that was read at the event?

I've been working on a way to get it onto the website. It should be there for viewing either today or tomarrow.

Today was the day we delivered copies of the Citizen’s Resolution document to local representatives of Senator Byrd, Senator Rockefeller and Congresswoman Capito. We were warmly received in each office and were respectfully allowed to present our concerns and discuss our motivations.

As far as the Citizen’s Resolution document itself is concerned it was explained to each the recipients that the document was comprised of clauses submitted by the Citizen's of Jefferson County via our website, had been presented to the public during our Tea Party and was accepted by all those present as evidenced by their signatures. We stated that as a result, we felt that it directly represented the will and desires of a significant portion of the population of our county and further more that we had been commissioned by those assembled on that day to deliver the message to our elected representatives.

The document isn't perfect but to me that makes it all the more special. The fact that so many citizens of this county endured the awful weather that day and stood there in the rain while I read the document to them and then lined up to sign it has made it very special to me just as it is.

We will continue our efforts to ensure that the Citizen's Resolution makes it to Capitol Hill and/or 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

If you'd like to read the final Resolution click here: http://www.wtpwv.com/resolution.php. Then come back here to discuss it if you'd like.

I'm new to the site, but I like what you guys have done both with the site and the resolution. Excellent work. If you let them run roughshod over your rights, they will do so.
