There will be a comment opportunity and meeting, held by the County Commission on the proposed $10 million, 30,000 square-foot proposed judicial center. It would be located on the County-owned block in Charles Town. The public is welcome.

WHEN: WED., MARCH 3RD
TIME: 7 PM
WHERE: MEETING ROOM, BASEMENT LEVEL, CHARLES TOWN LIBRARY OFF WASHINGTON STREET ON SAMUEL

I have an agenda item for the County Commission the following day to not build this costly structure in these troubled economic times, especially since it would put the County into debt. Indebtedness makes raising the tax levy rate hard to avoid.

2. To raise taxes, The County Commission has to vote no later than our meeting this coming Thursday, March 4th to decide on whether or not to schedule the public hearing that the law requires for such an increase in the levy rate. If the Commission does not vote to set the hearing date next Thursday then the levy rate is not possible.

I oppose raising the levy rate and therefore your taxes.

Meeting will begin at 9:30 AM. Citizens may at 9:40 AM come to the podium and make a comment about any issue to the Commission, including the possible vote to set a hearing on raising taxes.

Presently the County has $7.2 million in a capital outlay fund and no debt.

I believe the County should do everything to not raise the levy rate on our taxes in these troubled economic times, especially for the sake of those on fixed incomes.

WHEN: THURS., MARCH 4TH
TIME: 9:30 AM
WHERE: SAME AS ABOVE
